URGENT: Need feedback on website ASAP! Sending newsletter today...

Hello NFG!

Please review our home page in regards to end-of-year fundraising.  We are sending our newsletter WITHIN HOURS. We'd like to do a quick redesign before we send it out.

Re: URGENT: Need feedback on website ASAP! Sending newsletter today...

Hello Jodi!

Thanks for posting your site! Hopefully we can provide you some feedback that you can incorporate today. Katya came by my desk just now and this is what we discussed:

You're doing a great job with the big prominent Donate Now button above the fold, so this is a plus. However we're concerned that the left hand side of the page has a lot going on that may be distracting people from making a beeline to your donation page.

We recommend:

-- Boiling down the introductory text to one sentence that expresses the compelling reason for them to donate to your organization. The text on the page now might be better suited to an "About Us" page vs. the first thing they see during holiday donation season.

-- If possible, could you select one of the images on this page and make it more prominent? This will help tell your story and make it less distracting. You could then still have the remaining images below your call to action.

-- Katya advised to improve the newsletter sign up under the Donate Now button. The text is a little hard to read here and it would be great if users could enter their email address right from this page to sign up.

Hope this helps and please do let us know how it goes!

Re: URGENT: Need feedback on website ASAP! Sending newsletter today...

Hi Caryn!

Thanks for your quick response.  We'll look through our images to find the right one for the home page.

We haven't figured how to include a text form that connects to the NFG system for sign ups with the other pertinent info.  Currently we have it jumps to the page where people can add their name and zip code, which helps us to categorize if they are local or national (we target our newsletters differently depending on their location).   Do you have a suggestion for this?

Also, what is your overall feedback of the site - colors, format, functionality...  we're looking at adding pages, such as fundraising goals for each project, perhaps a testimonials page.

Thanks again!

Re: URGENT: Need feedback on website ASAP! Sending newsletter today...

Hi Jodi --

One thing on the newsletter sign up might just be to take some of the text out of the button image so that it just reads "Join our Email List" and links to the sign up form -- I think this would make the call to action a bit clearer here.

Overall I think your site looks good. Our first reaction when viewing it was that it seemed pretty busy -- I think it's great that you're incorporating a lot of color since you are an arts organization -- this makes the page feel very vibrant, but you may need to balance that out by taking a more simple approach with the number of images, text and other options you offer. This helps your visitors reduce the amount of things that might distract them from learning more about your mission, making a donation or getting involved. Also you might consider using a more traditional font in the navigation, as it is a little hard to read.

The last thing I would suggest would be to move your social media links/icons higher up the page -- either under the newsletter call out or even at the top of the page next to your home/contact tabs.

You mention adding more pages -- think about what pages your visitors might be looking for when they visit (a page on volunteering? a page on upcoming events? etc.). This will help make that a more user-friendly experience. If you do have testimonials, consider pulling one great quote out to feature on your homepage or even on your donation page to really drive home the impact you have in the community.

Hope that helps!
